The Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an Animal Technician to work at our Parkville campus to perform a range of duties to maintain and breed laboratory animals in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for the ethical care of animals.
With a keen interest in animal husbandry and biomedical research, you will predominantly be working with large animals (particularly sheep and non-human primates). As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:
- providing daily husbandry of large animals (providing food, water, maintaining cleanliness & hygiene, providing enrichment etc.)
- routinely handle and restrain large animals
- breeding large animals according to the procedures within a species-specific breeding system
- keeping timely and accurate records with the use of various databases
- provide high levels of customer service, assisting clients and the organisation of transport
Ideally, we are seeking someone who has completed or is currently undertaking their qualifications in the Diploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology) as well as someone with experience in the biomedical research industry.
