AdvanCell is a clinical stage radiopharmaceutical company developing novel targeted alpha therapies to improve survival and the quality of life for patients with cancer.

As an Animal Technician you will participate in the management of animal experiments performed by the AdvanCell preclinical research team, based at the world class Translational Research Institute (TRI) in Woolloongabba.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform daily husbandry tasks, including but not limited to cage changes, food and water monitoring.
  • Daily monitoring of AdvanCell animals (rodent) at TRI with a high degree of detail in animal record keeping.
  • Ensure animal health and wellbeing including general mouse monitoring.
  • Perform general procedures on animals.
  • Prepare treatment solutions including chemotherapeutics and radioactive substances.
  • Assist AdvanCell staff in their day-to-day activities in the animal house.
  • Assist with the development and review of research-related policies, procedures and processes for AdvanCell preclinical activities in the animal facility of TRI.
  • Assist Advancell staff with the monitoring of animal utilisation, adverse events, and project progress; ordering and tracking animals from external providers; organising transfer of animals between animal facilities and animal housing.

 

General laboratory duties include:

  • Management and ordering of laboratory consumable stocks.
  • Preparation of common laboratory consumables and solutions.
  • Participate in the biobanking of clinical samples.
  • Participate in laboratory cleaning.
  • Participate in the day-to-day maintenance of AdvanCell preclinical laboratories.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to a Certificate III in Animal Welfare or related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Extensive rodent handling and animal technician experience.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of ethical principles for working with animals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to accept communal responsibilities in a large laboratory.
  • Ability to learn new experimental procedures (with appropriate supervision).
  • Attention to detail in carrying out experimental procedures.
  • Careful documentation of experimental work.
  • Sound organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise your own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
