About the YMCA of Greater Brandywine:  The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), an association of eight YMCAs serving Chester County, is a non-profit organization committed to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.

 

Position Purpose: The Animal Technician position will require an individual with a variety of animal husbandry experiences. The Animal Technician is expected to be a competent and reliable handler of a wide variety of animals, including goats, sheep, chickens, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The Animal Technician is an integral part of the education program, by providing the utmost care to our animal ambassadors. Individuals must have the willingness and skills to contribute to a positive, teamwork focused culture.

 

 Responsibilities:  

  • Husbandry for native and exotic animal ambassadors
  • Diet preparation
  • Enclosure maintenance and cleaning
  • Assist with the upkeep of our environmental education center
  • Ensure live exhibits and 54-acre property provides the opportunities for learning
  • Lead by example at all times. Interact with a high level of professionalism and accountability.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must meet the state and federal licensing and permit requirements for the animals in our care
  • Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 18 years of age with some high school completion
  • One-year experience working with wild/domestic animals, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team of both staff and volunteers.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, stand for long periods and carry and lift 50lbs.
  • Must be willing to work some holidays and weekends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
