The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (the Institute) is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease and is one of the most respected heart research facilities in the world. Renowned for the quality of its breakthroughs, the Institute was established in 1994 and has grown to a team of almost 200 researchers from around the globe, working across five divisions. A global centre-of-excellence, it integrates Cardiac Physiology and Transplantation, Developmental and Stem Cell Biology, Molecular Cardiology and Biophysics, Structural and Computational Biology, as well as Vascular Biology. ​The role

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute maintains facilities for genetically modified rodents, where a high quality of animal care is coupled with excellent services for research.

As an Animal Technician, you will work as part of a skilled and dedicated animal care team who provide support for research into cardiac disease and development.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Animal care including provision of food, water and clean housing materials
• Animal husbandry including management of breeding colonies
• Liaising with researchers to optimise the health and welfare of animals under study
• Working with the team to ensure efficient facility operation
• Maintenance and operation of washing and sterilising equipment
• Maintenance of clean environments, including materials and equipment
• Compliance with regulations concerning animal ethics, gene technology, quarantine, and Work, Health & Safety
• Accurate recordkeeping and administrative responsibilities, such as breeding, sample submission and animal usage​

​About you​

You are an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a passion for animal care. You are committed to progressing your career in the laboratory animal field and interested in gaining skills and experience in a research facility setting. You have excellent attention to detail and are comfortable with electronic record management and email communications.

We would like to meet you if you have:

• ​Tertiary qualifications in laboratory animal science, animal technology, biological science, or a related field
• Prior experience in working in animal research facilities
• Ability to work individually or as part of a team
• Effective time management
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency​
