Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for an Animal Technician to join the Laboratory Operations, Bioservices Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position

We currently have an Animal Technician position available within the Bioservices department at Parkville Campus. A great opportunity for those wishing to pursue a career in the laboratory animal field, regardless if you are at the beginning of your career or already on your way.

WEHI is renowned for the level of training it provides its technical staff working with inbred and genetically manipulated mice. This enables the technical team to perform to the highest standards and be actively involved in the research undertaken at the Institute.

The Animal Technician will undertake tasks associated with the care, husbandry and maintenance of mice in the facility and may include technical procedures. Tasks include mouse husbandry, breeding, cleaning of cages and equipment and record keeping. Observational skills must be particularly attuned to the health and welfare of the animals under their care. Other skills that would benefit are technical competence in a good range of tissue removal and injection techniques and being able to juggle husbandry duties with technical demands.
