SunPork Farms is a wholly Australian-owned, integrated pork production enterprise based on more than 40 years of family farming traditions. SunPork Solutions provides technical support to the Group and consists of research and development, nutrition, veterinarian and health, training and decision support expertise. The company has a strong reputation for industry focused research. Currently we have an exciting opportunity to join our Science, Technology and Adoption Team as a research-focused Animal Technical Officer.
About the Role
The position will be based 20 minutes from Toowoomba, where you will take a leading role in the conduct and implementation of grow-finish research studies at the company’s facilities. These will be both external trials for 3rd parties (APL, APRIL, etc.), or internal trials for SunPork to enhance our understanding and performance in facilities across Australia.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and conduct research studies in disciplines including nutrition, reproduction, genetics, health and welfare
- Carry out animal and computer based data collection
- Undertake trial based daily husbandry tasks including but not limited to feeding, live weight assessment and monitoring of animal health and welfare
- Maintenance of research equipment
About you

As a key member of this team, the successful applicant must have:
- A Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field and/or a sound understanding of intensive animal production systems (essential)
- Experience in the conduct of animal performance trials is preferred but not essential
- A readiness to work flexible hours (including weekends and public holidays) as needed, as well as ability to travel both within South Australia and interstate
- Strong problem solving, organisation and communication skills
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Reasonable degree of fitness
- Ability to work independently and as directed by the Science, Technology and Manager
- Hold a strong work ethic.
