Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.
Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.

An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated individual to join Council’s Animal Management team at the Shepparton Animal Shelter. The Shepparton Animal Shelter cares for approximately 2000 lost and surrendered animals per year with a strong focus on animal welfare and finding them their forever homes.
Things You’ll Do:
- Work 7:45am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday and participate in the weekend roster when required.
- Provide exceptional care to the animals and ensure the shelter is maintained to a high standard.
- Share your knowledge of different dog and cat breeds and their behavioural traits as you match animals with their forever homes.
- Actively promote the animal shelter through various media initiatives in line with Council’s Media Policy.
- Educate the community on responsible pet ownership and provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Perform the duties of an authorised officer in accordance with all statutory requirements.

We are looking for a person who has;
- A passion for caring for all domestic animals.
- Knowledge and experience working in an animal related field such as animal welfare or veterinary clinics.
- A willingness to learn and implement contemporary animal welfare practices.
- A desire to provide excellent service including proactively assisting internal and external customers.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment.

Note: This position is subject to a 6 month qualifying period in accordance with the Fair Work Australia minimum employment period. During the qualifying period employees will be provided with appropriate on-going induction, support, assistance, resources and training to enable them to meet the required performance standards for the position.
