INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fourth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing and transport. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.
Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 65,000, and an expenditure budget in excess of $118 million. The population is culturally diverse with 9.9% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.
Animal Shelter Officer
Salary: $65,648.96 per annum

Applications are invited to fill a full time Animal Shelter Officer position within Council, based at the Shepparton Animal Shelter. Hours of work are 7:45am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, and applicants must be able to participate in the on-call roster which includes some weekend work.
Reporting to the Coordinator Animal Management, the position requires someone with a passion for responsible pet ownership and a strong focus on ensuring the welfare of animals in Council’s care. An Animal Shelter Officer is primarily responsible for:
- Fulfilling a range of duties and functions associated with running Council’s animal shelter in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, Council policies and procedures, including daily feeding and cleaning of pens, identifying and monitoring veterinary issues and handling of a range of animals.
- Providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Fostering a positive relationship between the animal shelter and the community.
- Ensuring that resources are utilised as efficiently as possible, ensuring the welfare of the animals at the shelter are prioritised.
- Performing the duties of an authorised officer in accordance with all statutory requirements.
The successful applicant will have experience in handling and caring for animals, be a strong team player, computer literate and possess excellent communication skills.

Note: This position is subject to a 6 month qualifying period in accordance with the Fair Work Australia minimum employment period. During the qualifying period employees will be provided with appropriate on-going induction, support, assistance, resources and training to enable them to meet the required performance standards for the position.
