Environmental Health and Compliance plays a vital role in protecting the health, environment and safety of our growing City. Our team of dedicated professionals are responsible for environmental protection and public health programs, development compliance, regulatory and animal services.

 

About the role

Council’s Ranger and Animal Services Unit are seeking an appropriately qualified person to fill the position of Animal Services Officer.

You will be responsible for delivering an effective and professional animal impounding service to the community, including timely and accurate responses to requests, complaints and reported incidents covering companion animal issues on public land. The position is full time, reporting to the Coordinator Ranger and Animal Services.

The position is primarily responsible for the impounding of the companion animals and Livestock in rural areas, responding to requests and complaints from the community and providing an effective service for the pickup of stray companion animals. The successful applicant will be required to issue infringement notices, prepare and present briefs of evidence and represent Council in the local court.

Animal Services Officers work a 38 hour week covering a spread of hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a roster day off once per fortnight. Animal Services Officers also participate with on call duties every second week for a seven day period.

 

Essential
• Relevant TAFE Certificate or equivalent qualifications in animal husbandry or willingness to obtain
• Demonstrated understanding of the Companion Animals Act
• Demonstrated understanding of the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act
• Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Micro chipping Implanters Accreditation or willingness to obtain
• Demonstrated experience in the use of PC applications
• A current National Police Check
• A current unrestricted Australian Drivers License.
Desirable
• Demonstrated understanding of the Local Government Act
• Experience in Local Government or general law enforcement
• Experience in the transportation and or handling of companion animals.
Commencing salary: $67,619.00 - $78,273.00 per annum, plus 11.5% Superannuation.
