Animal Nutritionist

Milne AgriGroup is a privately owned WA agribusiness with interests in feed milling, animal nutrition, livestock production, meat processing and consumer marketing. Milne Feeds is the feed milling division and is a market leader in Western Australia in the supply of feed to the sheep, beef, dairy & equine markets.  Milne Feeds’ success and reputation within the agricultural sector has been built upon providing superior customer service and feed quality to livestock producers.

With a philosophy of innovation, quality, service and animal welfare, the business requires an Animal Nutritionist to support the Senior Nutritionist.

This newly created position provides an exciting opportunity for a passionate, proactive individual with a background in nutrition and/or animal science to join the Welshpool Milne Feeds team, for an immediate start.

This is a challenging and rewarding role, combining both science-based and practical approaches together in a fast-moving feed production environment. Reporting to the Senior Nutritionist and Procurement Manager, and working in conjunction with the Production Manager, Customer Service Manager, and sales teams; this role will see you directly contribute to Milne’s success and growth.

An individual who is a quick thinker and capable of thriving in an ever-changing environment is important for this role. An understanding of supply chain raw material flow and its impact upon production outputs is beneficial, together with an awareness of agriculture and livestock systems.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Formulate rations to meet required specifications.
  • Liaise with the Senior Nutritionist and Procurement Manager on raw ingredients availability and receivals.
  • Add value to Milne Feeds’ customers by delivering business solutions designed to benefit customer needs and increase production gains across varying environmental conditions.
  • Undertake daily mill modeling to optimise production efficiency, whilst sustaining product quality standards.
  • Maintain and evaluate product production performance and quality
  • Manage and coordinate the timely and efficient intake of key raw materials whilst sustaining and strengthening long-term supplier relationships.
  • Following up with the Senior Nutritionist where required on quality assurance and control.
  • Represent the business on-farm or at national industry forums where required.
  • Provide technical support to the Milne Feeds sales team members.

 

Desirable requirements & skills:

  • One to five years of livestock or agriculture experience; ruminant knowledge or experience would be particularly beneficial, but not essential. Exposure to fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), milling or animal production industries would be advantageous.
  • Degree within an agricultural or science discipline (Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field), with a nutritional component being highly desirable.
  • Ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Capable of learning new tasks quickly, combined with strong adaptability to change.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with team members across all levels of the business to achieve agreed KPIs.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with competency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and Excel. Experience in nutritional formulation software functionality would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • A customer-centric approach with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • A current valid driver's license.
  • A positive, friendly and outcome-focused team member.

Salary is negotiable based on experience.
