Hamilton Island, one of the most unique and beautiful destinations in the world, is looking for an experienced Animal Keeper Supervisor to help deliver the highest quality of animal husbandry, care and welfare for the animals in our Wildlife Park.

We would like to hire a motivated, passionate professional who has experience with Australian Native animals, specifically but not limited to Koalas and reptiles.

Your Role

• Supervise a small and committed Animal care team.
• Co-ordinate rosters and Animal Keeper time management.
• Assist with innovative exhibit development to enhance overall guest experience at the Wildlife Park.
• Responsible for delivering best practice animal husbandry and welfare.  Monitoring animal health, including maintaining animal records, and diets including weekly food orders.
• Engaging the public through interactive opportunities and educating guests on native Australian Fauna to enhance their overall experience.
• Ensure the safety of animals, guests and staff at all times.
• Coach and assist fellow members of the team on animal care and procedures as per the industry standards.
• Assist the Park Director to maintain legislative requirements, permits as well as ZAA compliance and liaison.

You are a passionate, energetic, professional with proven experience for the job. A motivating leader to our small team of wildlife keepers with high level customer service and most importantly, have the right attitude and self-motivation that will result in a positive experience every time for our customers.

You will also have: 

• QLD Driver’s License (Essential)
• Current First Aid HLTDAID001 (Essential)
• Tertiary qualifications in animal husbandry/zoology, Cert 3 or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 consecutive years Full time paid employment with Australian Natives (Essential)
• Minimum 2 years at senior level within the Wildlife industry with a demonstrated capacity to supervise a small Animal Keeping team (Essential)
• High level of planning and organisation skills required to meet the daily challenge of a business within the Hamilton Island brand (Essential)
• Exceptional interpersonal and team building skills (Essential)
