The Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health (SMAH) is committed to quality outcomes delivered via a sustainable model where development and innovation are key elements of all that we do.  SMAH is one of UOW’s four Faculties and incorporates the Schools of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience (SCMB), Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS), Nursing, and the School of Medicine (incorporating Graduate Medicine).

SEALS and SCMB conduct world class research and teaching in ecology, conservation biology, evolutionary biology, marine biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and immunology.  Researchers working in medically relevant areas are situated at the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute and the Animal Facility, while ecology-based researchers have access to the Ecological Research Facility, with 576 square meters of laboratory space for contained experiments.

Working primarily with researchers from the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) in the Animal Facility, this role ensures effective and safe operation of the facility, to facilitate high quality research and teaching.

Reporting to the Animal Facility Technical Coordinator and ultimately the SMAH Operations manager, this position supports the operations of the Animal Facility by performing inductions and training of researchers and ensuring animal husbandry and handling activities are carried out. The role also includes operational functions such as planning and reporting associated with the facility, as well as assisting researchers with various animal techniques.

You will be prompted to respond to a selection criteria questionnaire as part of the application process.  For further information about this position, please contact Dr Amanda Guy-Chresby on + 61 2 4221 5279.
