Animal Diets Keeper
Responsibilities:
As an Animal Diets Keeper at Wildlife HQ Zoo, you will play a pivotal role in preparing the daily animal diets. This dynamic position involves a unique blend of animal diet preparation and customer interaction as you respond to enquiries at the animal encounter kiosk during opening hours.
Animal Diet Preparation Duties:
Accurately prepare food and supplies for animal diets daily.
Follow protocols to maintain a high level of sanitation.
Participate in the creation of enrichments aimed at promoting the physical and mental well-being of our animals.
Assist with routines, as required, to ensure the highest standards of animal care.
Collect produce and receive deliveries to the Diet Prep building.
Continue to develop proficiency in routines and specialized procedures.
Maintain equipment and report problems if needed.
Communicate, work cooperatively with staff zoo-wide, and follow the appropriate chain of command.
Assist with the maintenance of diet, inventory, stocking, and receiving records.
Respond to public enquiries in a courteous and well-informed manner.
Acquire general knowledge about Wildlife HQ Zoo, its mission statement, policies and procedures, collection, and the objectives of the Animal Diets department.
Animal Encounter Kiosk Duties:
On-call to attend enquiries at the animal encounter kiosk from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Schedule and coordinate animal encounters for visitors, ensuring a memorable and educational experience.
Handle payments, provide information, and deliver exceptional customer service to our guests.
Maintain effective communication and coordination with the animal care team.
Clarification:
This role does not involve regular direct interaction with the animals but focuses on supporting the zoo team.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:
Communicate effectively and work within a close-knit teamwork environment.
Perform each essential duty.
Requirements:
Valid driver's license.
Ability to work 4 days a week, including weekends (7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Must possess the ability to:
Communicate well verbally and in writing.
Work effectively in a team setting.
Show initiative in problem-solving, exhibiting alertness and good judgment.
Learn quickly and carry out tasks as directed, following detailed directions.
Meet emergencies calmly and effectively.
Prepare and deliver diets accurately in a timely fashion.
Education and/or Experience:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
One year of food service experience or 1 year of working in a zoo facility.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Environment:
Team-oriented environment.
Ability to work irregular hours (holidays and weekends).
