Animal Control Officer - Wanaka

Employing over 500 staff in what is indisputably one of the most stunning locations in the country, Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) is at the very heart of a dynamic community. Our services are essential to the people in our region and include infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services.

 

The Role

We are seeking a confident and motivated Animal Control Officer to join the Regulatory Team in a permanent full-time capacity.

You will provide effective animal control services to ensure a safe environment from roaming and aggressive dogs for the Wanaka community, through education, pro-active patrolling and the administration and enforcement of Queenstown Lakes District Council's Dog Control Bylaws and relevant legislation.

You will also be responsible for the care of animals in the pound and must ensure that the pound is kept in a clean and safe condition.

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A National Certificate in Compliance and Regulatory Control (Animal Control) Level 2 and 4 or the ability to obtain one on placement
  • Previous experience working in a similar role in a regulatory environment
  • The ability to draft detailed, concise reports
  • An excellent eye for detail and the ability to effectively multitask
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gain their trust and respect, even in difficult situations
  • A highly motivated, achievement-oriented and innovative approach
  • A good level of physical fitness and the ability to work in all weather conditions
  • A full, clean New Zealand Driving Licence
