Description

We are seeking an independent and passionate individual who can lead a small team with dedication and expertise in animal welfare while collaborating across multiple departments and ultimately be responsible for the overall operations of the Mackay Animal Care Campus. As the Animal Care Manager, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential assistance to all creatures, big and small, ensuring their health and welfare needs are met to the highest standards. The successful applicant must be a strong collaborative leader with proven experience in operations, management and implementation of strategic and business plans.

  • Responsible for the overall operations of the RSPCA Mackay Animal Care/Shelter Operations.
  • Ensure RSPCA Five Domains are at the forefront of shelter operations.
  • Collaboratively and effectively communicate with stakeholders across RSPCA and MRC departments to ensure the best outcomes for the animals in our care, whilst maintaining a good working relationship with council.
  • Financial Management of the shelter including accurate budgetary reporting and meeting financial targets.
  • Manage shelter capacity through in care inventories by liaising with necessary stakeholders to coordinate the transfer of animals into and out of your facility.
  • Oversee the animal adoption/intake process and complete the relevant administrative tasks (adoption, returns, private surrender, inspectorate and euthanasia).
  • Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships with internal and external relations.
  • Appropriately manage all concerns or complaints that arise as per RSPCA procedures.
  • Liaise with relevant departments and coordinate events, educational visits, and fundraising activities.
  • Create and maintain rosters for your team.
  • Take responsibility for the Workplace Health and safety of visitors, staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee the comprehensive training of all staff and volunteers and provide performance management.
  • When required, attend learning and development opportunities at other facilities, including RSPCA QLD shelters.
  • Meet the communicated objectives of the RSPCA Qld strategic plan and support the Senior Management Team and CEO in their key objectives.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customer facing role.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an animal husbandry role.
  • Certificate 3 in Animal Studies or equivalent highly desirable.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in a community engagement role, highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the Animal Welfare and Protection Act.
  • Animal knowledge (breeds, identification processes) and passionate about animal welfare.
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving is essential.
  • Understanding of budget and financial management.
  • Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office suite + RSPCA software.
  • High attention to detail, accurate data entry and records maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage competing priorities and delegate tasks.
  • Motivated and ambitious with a demonstrated drive.
  • Respectful, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Physically fit and able to keep up with the physical demands of the job.

This is a full time, permanent position based at the Mackay Animal Care Campus. Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications, experience and skills.
