The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ACT is Australia’s prominent animal welfare organisation. We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA ACT is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities with dedicated staff to care for animals.

RSPCA ACT is currently recruiting for Animal Care & Behavioural Training assistants to join our kennels team.

 

What RSPCA ACT is looking for:

  • Physically and mentally fit individuals. Working with dogs is hard physical work and can be mentally demanding. You will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Be able to handle dogs of all shapes and sizes
  • Keen observation skills
  • Passion & patience to assist these dogs find their forever homes, by helping them transition over time from challenging to desirable behaviours.
  • A great work ethic and a team player
  • Outstanding communication skills and contribution of ideas to the team
  • Willingness to learn and follow instruction
  • Have a flexible mindset with creative problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Relevant qualifications would be highly regarded but not essential.

In this position you will be assisting with assessing the behavioural needs of shelter dogs, assisting with behavioural modification plans and putting these plans into practice. You will also be responsible for the basic care and husbandry of the dogs in our care.  You may be required to also assist in other areas of the shelter from time to time.

This position will include weekend work.  Possible additional hours and duties at peak times such as events may be required.

Remuneration is in line with the Animal Care and Veterinary Services Award, Level 1-4 and will depend on experience.
