Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Hours of work: 40 hours per week

Location: SPCA Invercargill Centre

Invercargill SPCA is looking for a kind, fun animal champion to join their team as Animal Care Assistant who can also cover Vet Nurse duties when required.

The role includes:

• Assisting with animal care responsibilities at the Centre to provide for the physical health and behavioral needs of all animals in care, including:
  • Ensuring a safe and sanitary facility for animals and people
  • Providing humane handling
  • Ensuring their nutritional, housing and medical needs are met.
• Assisting the public with adopting animals and general enquiries.
• Acts as a back-up and support for all other operational functions of the Centre including vet nurse duties when required.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Experience and evidence based skills in animal care, handling, behavior, enrichment and welfare
• Experience working as an effective and positive team member
• Applicable tertiary qualification e.g. animal welfare, Animal care, canine/feline training and behavior
• Veterinary nurse experience and/or experience working in a veterinary clinic preferable but not essential
• Good interpersonal skills – ability to build rapport with employees, volunteers, other stakeholders and suppliers
• Good communication skills
• Effective time management skills, organisation and planning abilities
• Good animal handling and restraining skills (especially for veterinary examinations, medications and procedures).
• Sound computer skills including the use of e-mail, internet and Microsoft Office applications.
