fantastic opportunity exists for an animal attendant to join our Blue Cross Animals Society of Victoria team.

We are seeking those with a genuine passion for helping people and animals. This role is in a fast-paced team environment and you will need to be able to multi-task to a high degree.

Animal Husbandry- Proven animal husbandry and canine handling knowledge and experience. Dog Breed knowledge along with good behaviour / medical observation skills. Must be comfortable with handling dogs & cats varying in size and temperament.

Teamwork– You must be able to work in a team environment, one where all staff members are respectful, communicate well and are able to depend on each other.

Communication & Customer Service – Must have sound customer service experience along with exceptional communication skills.

Physical ability / Time management – This role is physically demanding, must have a “can do” attitude and be prepared to work in all weather conditions. The position is fast paced and requires everyone to be able to manage their time and priorities to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.

 

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter;
  • Competent to read animal behaviour
  • Must be willing to work across all areas of the shelter. In both a team environment and on your own.
  • Positive team member and a keen attitude for sharing knowledge and helping others;
  • Strong time management skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Basic computer skills

 

Recruitment Requirements

  • Holds or is willing to complete a Certificate II in Animal Studies (or equivalent) will be highly regarded;
  • Must have 2 or more years experience in the animal care industry
  • The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays.
  • Current and valid Victorian drivers’ licence
  • Current tetanus vaccination
  • Current and valid COVID-19 vaccination (primary course) records, unless a medical exemption applies

We envisage hours to range from 15-25 per week.
Flexibility to work any day of the week. Position requires availability during weekends and Public holidays. Roster commences 8am and afternoon roster finishes 4.30pm some overtime maybe required. Ability to work without constant supervision (after initial training).
