About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Animal Attendant to assist in operations at Bathurst Regional Council’s new facility, the Bathurst Animal Rehoming Centre (BARC). Applicants will have a minimum of 3 year’s experience in a similar role and be motivated to maintain high standards of animal welfare. Animal Attendants will be required to undertake duties such as cleaning and disinfection of kennels and feeding and care of impounded animals. Experience in handling dangerous or aggressive dogs will be highly regarded.

The successful candidates will demonstrate a high standard of customer service, assisting customers both at the facility and on the telephone in release or adoption of animals. Basic to intermediate computer skills and an ability to use online databases and case management software (supported by on the job training) are essential requirements of the role.

There are multiple positions available, and candidates interested in a permanent part time or a full time role are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be available to work on weekends and public holidays on a rostered basis.

 

Key Requirements

  • Certificate II in Animal Studies or at least 3 year’s experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated capacity to handle dogs and cats in accordance with safe work method statements
  • Ability and experience in cleaning and disinfection of animal cages to the required hygiene standard
  • High level of customer service skills
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate adoption and rehoming of animals
  • Solid working knowledge of animal behaviour and assessment requirements
  • Experience in administrative tasks such as data entry, completion of forms and telephone enquiries
  • Basic to Intermediate user of MS Word, Excel and web-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult customers both in person and on the telephone
  • Class C NSW Drivers Licence

This position requires a pre-employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen.

 

Salary: $1068.20 to $1122.28 per week + super (full time rate, pro rata for part time)

Position Status: Permanent full time & Permanent part time available

Hours of work: Full time hours are 38 per week over five days with a RDO every third week, part time will be a minimum of two days per week. Weekend work on a rostered basis will be required for all positions (overtime or weekend penalty rates will apply).
