About Tasracing
Tasracing is the principal racing authority in Tasmania, responsible for providing the strategic direction and funding to the three codes of racing across the state- thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound. In accordance with its legislative obligations, Tasracing is responsible for the development of racing and breeding, the making of rules, the funding of clubs as well as providing stakes, negotiating media rights, and managing racing and training venues.
Role Purpose
As a member of the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) team, the Animal Behaviourist and trainer reports to the GAP Manager. This position is responsible for assessing the behaviour of greyhounds, and the development and implementation of enrichment and behaviour modification programs. The Animal Behaviourist and trainer works collaboratively with all GAP employees to enhance GAP's functionality as an animal welfare entity and to raise its visibility in the community.

- Determine behaviour of greyhound
- Implement behaviour modification program
- Assist with behaviour assessments
- Work with all Greyhounds on site to provide enrichment and deliver enrichment programs
- Provide education and key information to GAP staff, foster carers, adoptive persons, work experience students and other relevant stakeholders
- Support GAP at events
- Update software program to accurately reflect characteristics of greyhound and suitable home criteria
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or near completion.
- Demonstrated experience in animal behaviour and training (desirable).
- Ability to successfully implement canine behaviour modification and enrichment programs.
- Current "C" class drivers’ licence and willingness to drive a 6-berth dog trailer.
- First Aid training (or willingness to obtain).
