About the Organisation:

The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research is a not-for-profit organisation located in Sydney’s South West that undertakes medical research that specifically addresses, and can be applied to, the needs of south west Sydney communities and beyond. The Institute is integral to a unique collaboration with the South Western Sydney Local Health District, Western Sydney University, and the University of NSW.

The Institute has experienced exponential growth since its inception in 2012 and currently houses 360 researchers and support staff in its Liverpool building.

 

About the role:

Scientific Operations supports over 300 researchers from some 42 research groups based at the Institute. The Scientific Operations Team manage and maintain PC2 Laboratories and laboratory rodents for biomedical research.

The PC2 animal facility accommodates rodents in Individually Ventilated Cages (IVC’s). The team is currently recruiting for a Casual Animal and Laboratory Technicians to support the Scientific Operations Team and the researchers in the monitoring and high quality care of these animals as well as supporting the research laboratories.

The successful applicant will perform the role of an animal technician within Scientific Operations, working with a team of animal care professionals to provide a quality and efficient service to the Institutes research groups.   This role also supports the Institute’s research laboratories.

 

Requirements for the position include:

  • Diploma of Animal Technology, Bachelor Animal Science or studying towards
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Understand the physical, behavioural, and environmental needs of rodents and be able to predict and interpret their responses.
  • Genuine interest in working with rodents with a caring approach.
  • Knowledge of the relevant state and federal legislation and guidelines for animal care and wellbeing, and OGTR guidelines for containment.
  • Ability to prioritise / organise work in the areas of responsibility.
  • Capacity to interact well with others, including working within our researchers, animal care team and to work independently.

This is a casual position, that may require attendance on some weekends.
