We have a range of vacancies in the Industry, Infrastructure and Environment Division (II&E). II&E offers fast paced and fascinating work on issues that matter to Australians and go to the heart of our country’s future. We advise the Prime Minister and the Cabinet on a wide range of issues from infrastructure, agriculture, industry, resources, telecommunications, the arts, the environment and energy and climate change.
The roles are fast paced, varied and present exciting opportunities to help shape and implement the Government’s agenda.
Working with a high degree of autonomy in high achieving teams, successful applicants will work closely with other teams across the department and the APS to brief the Prime Minister and Cabinet on priority issues.
You will have the opportunity to work with a team of highly skilled and experienced colleagues and leaders in a supportive and collaborative work environment to achieve meaningful change in a challenging and high-priority area.
Successful applicants will leverage PM&C’s whole of government insights to assist other departments to develop and refine policy proposals.
This involves:
- Developing policy advice for the Prime Minister, Assistant Minister and senior executive
- undertaking analysis and research on a range of cross-cutting policy issues
- coordinating input across internal PM&C teams and across other Government departments drafting briefing materials such as ministerial submissions, event briefs and correspondence
- engaging with key internal and external stakeholders including other central agencies and departments as part of Cabinet and Budget processes.
A merit pool may be established and used to fill the same or similar vacancies for 18 months from the date of advertising.

The successful applicants will be critical thinkers who can contribute their own ideas and are able to use their strong conceptual skills to consider and advise on a wide range of issues. We work in a dynamic and fast paced environment, so we are looking for people who work effectively and independently under pressure and can balance a number of priorities.

- Work through complex policy issues with colleagues to influence outcomes.
- The ability to stay flexible in a rapidly changing environment and deal with uncertainty will be an advantage.
- The successful applicants will be expected to exercise initiative and judgement and be motivated to deliver results.
Previous experience:
We value a diversity of professional and academic backgrounds and experiences, including from the private and non-government sectors.
- For APS 5 applicants, no previous government experience is required.
- For APS 6 applicants, previous experience in government will be an advantage but not a requirement.

Eligibility:
- To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
- The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
- The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
