Job Title: Adviser/Senior Adviser

Role type Permanent, Full-time

Salary range: $68,781 to $108,321 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role

The Adviser / Senior Adviser contributes to the development, implementation, maintenance and review of standards and systems including import health standards, craft risk management standards, CTO approved systems and other documents and processes in accordance with established procedures and in line with international principles.  The Adviser/ Senior Adviser will be portfolio lead for key pathways including vehicles, machinery and parts and other inorganic risk material as well as extensive stakeholder engagement and any emerging work allocated by the Manager.

The Adviser / Senior Adviser will be allocated responsibilities within the Invasive Species team, working in a very dynamic environment with often rapidly changing requirements. The specific work areas identified may change in line with these, and the Adviser / Senior Adviser may at times work in areas covering outside of their portfolios across the Animal & Plant Health Directorate.

 

Mōu - About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally bring the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in plant biological science, or a related discipline
  • Relevant technical/professional experience
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Proficient stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
  • Experience in or an ability to produce written technical documents in simple understandable terms
  • Ability to work under pressure and in conflict situations
  • Ability to plan, set priorities and meet deadlines

 

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About the Team

The Animal & Plant Health Directorate in Biosecurity New Zealand facilitates safe trade in plants and plant products by setting requirements for imports and ensuring requirements on our exports are technically justified and adhered to by our exporters.

The Environment Health Group sits within the Animal & Plant Health Directorate and is responsible for delivering import, facility and craft standards and systems in line with international best-practice and science.  It undertakes the assessment of offshore import pathways for conformance with Import Health Standard requirements and manages the biosecurity treatments programme which includes treatment research.

The Adviser / Senior Adviser sits within this group and reports into the Manager, Invasive Species.
