Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
- Your role is to provide work programme, project and technical support for the development, review and implementation of animal welfare standards.
- You will be an integral part of the team responsible for providing advice on good practice relevant to the physical, health and behavioural needs of animals.
- The role is responsible for working across MPI, the Ministerial Advisory Committees, other stakeholders and the Animal Welfare Science Team to meet the expectations of New Zealand society for the welfare and humane treatment of animals.
- This role is integral to maintaining New Zealand's international standing for the care of animals and reputation as a responsible agricultural producer. Animal welfare issues are complex and you will need to be sensitive to the views of all parties when developing policies and standards.
Mōu - About You
To be successful in this role you will ideally have the following skills and attributes:
- Graduate/postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject or a Veterinary qualification, or a relevant qualification and equivalent experience
- Desirable to have experience with animals in an animal or animal welfare related field
- Self-motivated with exceptional organisational skills, able to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Methodical approach to problem solving with good attention to detail
- Broad knowledge of the New Zealand regulatory environment and Animal Welfare Act 1999
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with people from all levels of an organisation
