The School of Veterinary and Life Sciences (VLS), formed in January 2013, is well resourced with research and teaching facilities, and hosts a number of research groups and centres across the disciplines of Agricultural and Fisheries Sciences, Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Medical and Molecular Sciences and Murdoch University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The Role

With support from the team leader and colleagues, the successful candidate will develop a scholarly research profile in animal welfare science and coordinate day-to-day research activities.¬† The Post-Doctoral Fellow will co-manage the externally funded project ‚ÄėWelfare Indicator Dashboard; a pilot study for the live export supply chain‚Äô, a key project for addressing current and emerging welfare issues within the livestock industry. The key accountability for the project is to develop objective welfare measures for sheep and cattle that can be trialled in industry.

As well as this, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will assist in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students and undertake professional activities relevant to the discipline.

Skills and Experience

Key proficiencies include:

  • A PhD in an animal or veterinary science related field
  • Demonstrated capacity for research in livestock behaviour or welfare science
  • Ability to engage in high-quality independent research with a successful record of accomplishment of scholarly publications.
  • Project coordination and working effectively in multidisciplinary teams
