Scone Equine Group (SEG) is seeking a full time equine surgeon, based at the Scone Equine Hospital. Applicants must have, or be eligible to sit, appropriate qualifications to allow registration as an Australian specialist in equine surgery. These include FANZCVS, Dipl ACVS or Dipl ECVS.
SEG includes Scone Equine Hospital, Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital and Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre. We are the largest equine practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 40 equine veterinarians during the breeding season, The group boasts an internationally recognised team of veterinarians, including 3 specialists in equine surgery, 3 specialists in equine medicine and 2 specialists in theriogenology.
Scone Equine Hospital performs approximately 1500 major surgical procedures annually. The surgical load is biased towards thoroughbreds, although we have a significant number of non-racing performance clients. The Scone Equine Hospital is well equipped to perform all recognised procedures. Surgeries at Avenel (Victoria) and Tamworth (NSW) are well equipped to perform routine elective and some emergency procedures.
Scone is located in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding and western performance industries and is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to major regional centres and cities on the east coast of Australia.
The successful applicant will be one of four equine surgeons, based at our Scone surgical facility, although the successful surgeon will have the opportunity on occasion to travel to our other sites to perform elective procedures. Our surgeons have a wealth of experience and are willing to provide help, support and training.
The position is permanent full time with the hope that the applicant will stay long-term and acquire ownership. An attractive salary package is offered with the commencement date being May 2018, although a delay until August is possible. Applications close in March.
