Position Description

AIFST is seeking applications to fill two Board vacancies at its 2018 AGM to be held in Melbourne on 31 May 2018.

Applications are sought from individuals with a genuine interest in AIFST‚Äôs business who will contribute to the implementation of the 2016 ‚Äď 2018 and beyond ‚Äės strategic plan and vision, and development of the Institute‚Äôs offerings to its members‚Äô and the global food industry.

The term of appointment will be 3 years, subject to the rotations that are required by the constitution. The position is an expensed position. The five set Board meetings and AGM include four face-to-face full day meetings held on a quarterly basis and one teleconference meeting which runs for approximately 2 ‚Äď 3 hours; additional meetings are held as required. Board meetings are usually held in Sydney.

There is an expectation that where possible Directors will attend the occasional AIFST member event or function to further network with members.


About The Organisation

The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology Limited (AIFST) is the independent voice and network for Australia’s food industry professionals to underpin and support their contribution to the Australian and global food industry.

Following prior international linkages, the Institute was formally established in 1967 and celebrated its 50th year of operation in 2017. AIFST has a small Sydney based CEO-led secretariat of 4 FTE equivalents.

The organisation is currently operating in line with its 2016 ‚Äď 2018 Strategic Plan focused on the strategic priorities related to Membership Services, Skill and Capability Building, Industry Services, Advocacy and Communications.

The Board has identified the following skills as being required to strengthen the organisation and complement the existing board skills:

¬∑ Membership services development ‚Äď focused on driving the organisation‚Äôs ongoing value proposition and service offering for members.
¬∑ Government and stakeholder relations ‚Äď in order to ensure a continuing focus is kept on financial sustainability and viability of the Institute, experience in driving relationships with government and external networks, with an eye to growth and finances is sought to support the Institute‚Äôs longer term model.

CORE COMPETENCIES
The following outlines the core competencies desired of potential candidates:
· Sound governance knowledge base, AICD qualifications preferred
· Strategic thinker
· Collegiate working style
· Collaborative in nature with a focus on team work
· An ability to understand key Financial indicators
· Experience on a prior Board would be helpful.
· Knowledge of the food, beverage, agriculture, technology, or manufacturing industries could be useful.
· Understanding of, or experience with, membership organisations.
